AL_A were invited to submit proposals for the new Paul Marshall Building for the London School of Economics. A building shaped by sustainability and connectivity, our proposals sought to bring together the city and the campus with a new public commons – a place for the unplanned and unexpected.
A building shaped by daylight and the constant movement of people, it is centred around a void, which becomes its most positive and active space, and is innovative, progressive and adaptable to flex and flux.
Designed and understood in strata, the Paul Marshall Building sets up a rich diversity of experiences that express the depth of the LSE and with spaces for forging connections and encouraging collaboration. An institution and a building not bound by the traditional limits or distinctions of universities, our designs create a new identity for the LSE with gravitas and reflection, and with an identity defined by overlapping personalities and contexts.
