First Stone – Resistance‘ is a new documentary created by RTP Culta e Adulta that explores the creation of works for the Resistance project.

The first phase of the Primeira Pedra project was presented in Venice during the 15th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, along with the second at the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein during the Art Basel 2017.

The collection of works includes two pieces by AL_A:

  • Metamórfica (Venice, 2016) is a cuboid which can be deconstructed into smooth and highly polished fragments, each with the potential to be appropriated at stools, coffee tables, benches and other items.
  • Deconstructing the Cube (Basel, 2017) is a seemingly perfect cube almost 2m high and created by a series of undulating slabs of limestone stacked one on top of the other, with each layer rotated through 90 degrees.

This documentary showcases the process of making and the changing perceptions of materiality across the project and includes work by Alejandro Aravena, Álvaro Siza, Eduardo Souto de Moura, João Luís Carrilho da Graça and Márcio Kogan, among others.

‘First Stone – Resistance’ can be watched here.
