MAAT turns red to celebrate opening of new exhibitions

News: Opening of Utopia/Dystopia and Order & Progress in the kunsthalle

March 22 2017

The 15,000 ceramic tiles of MAAT were turned red to celebrate the opening of two new exhibitions.

Utopia/Dystopia is the first “manifesto exhibition” at MAAT’s new building, designed by AL_A. Establishing a dialogue with the site-specific commissions in the Oval Gallery, these group shows present side by side works of artists and architects who, in their respective fields, have produced insights and critical reflections on crucial themes of our times. The exhibition will run until 21 August.

Alongside Utopia/Dystopia, Héctor Zamora presents a new version of the performance-installation Order and Progress, in which wreckage from traditional Portuguese fishing boats from different coastal regions temporarily take over MAAT’s Oval Gallery. The performance will welcome the museum’s reopening, at 6pm, on 22 March, in the Oval Gallery. The installation will run until 24 April.
